We headed on down just south of the Duomo where all the fashion stores are and immediately saw that there were mobs of people. The streets were totally packed and there were DJs blaring loud dance music in several of the stores. There were lines to get into the stores and many of them even had bouncers. There were tons of well dressed fashionistas everywhere and it was crazy to see what different stores did. Ali and I went in a store called "coin" that was playing loud music and saw sweaters that were €200. There were all kinds of neat dresses and sweaters and hats and things. The "Guess" store gave keys to everyone who went in. As soon as you got in you were in a really slow moving line to the back of the store that led to a treasure chest with a lock on it. Each person tried their key to see if it would open the lock and if it didn't work you were given a 10% off coupon. One girl's key worked and she got a 70% off coupon. I thought that was a really cool way to get people to come shop at the store. The store "Pinko" was throwing a huge party in the store with a DJ and free drinks for everyone! Ali and I came to look at clothes but we ended up tangled in a huge mob of people. There were people talking photos of the designers being the DJ at Pinko
In addition to the crazy stores there was also a good deal of commotion on the streets. Some group was protesting something in Italian by wearing the same shirts and having a giant break dance party in the middle of the street. There was a fashion parade float....
And lots of other fun stuff. Ali loves sparkley clothes and one store had some really sparkley shoes that I thought she would really like and would make a great anniversary gift...
These shoes glittered as if they were covered in diamonds. Kind of like the ruby slippers in the "Wizard of Oz", they were beautiful. The only problem was.... the starting price was €500. We didn't leave Fashion night empty handed however! Some stores were throwing free product out to the crowds of people that would gather. I found a store throwing flip flops
and I quickly rushed in to get Ali a pair. After a while of being pushed and shoved around as shoes flew by my head I finally managed to grab a pair. They even fit Ali! Fashion night was great. Afterwards we headed back to my apartment where they were celebrating this girl Kristine's birthday. We all ended up going to a pub where there was supposed to be a Rolling Stones cover band playing but it turned out to be nothing.
Fashion's night out was Ali and my first night out in Florence and it was cool! Florence is really pretty at night and there are much less tourists. The duomo is lit up and all the neon signs glow with beautiful colors. I want to take my nice camera out at night and take photos because it is really nice.
